Emotions of yoga

Emotions in yoga is a big topic and I never really felt emotional when doing yoga, quite the opposite, it helps me clear my mind and helps me focus. There were a few emotional times on my YTT course but I never experienced that. However that all changed on my last yoga teacher training weekend, we were leg through a Yoga Nidra practice. Our teacher led us through a visualization, which was very powerful and really resonated with me. I was able to connect to it in a way that I haven’t been able to in any of my Yoga practices yet. This was a very new phenomenon for me. I’m normally very collected and have my emotions under control, but this time there was no holding back. Nor did I want to hold back, I knew I was in a safe place. Laying on the mat, tears rolling down my face, I knew what so many people were talking about when they said they get emotional during their practice. I never experienced these extreme emotions in my practice before.

Yoga can trigger all sorts of emotion during a practice, especially when it slows down at the end of the class in Savasana. The yoga room is a safe place and no matter what you feel you shouldn’t be suppressing the emotions that you feel. Yoga is an amazing tool to tap into your true self and unlock your emotions. You will feel a million times better after, even if you feel vulnerable. Being vulnerable isn’t a bad thing, it’s just part of being human.

My advice is, try a yoga nidra class, it will certainly relax you and might even unlock some of your deepest emotions.
